Wiki Policy

·         Principal needs to be aware of the wiki.

·         Parents must grant permission for students to participate in the wiki.

  • Students/ parents can choose to opt out of using the wiki and you must provide alternate school work.

·         Wiki page content is monitored and approved by the teacher.

·         Access to wiki is by password and for class members only (Parents are not allowed to take part in classroom sponsored wikis.)

·         No actual student names are visible. (uses initials or pseudonyms)

·         No student user has a profile online.

·         No recognizable student images are on the wiki.

·         You cannot ask students to get email accounts outside of our network to participate in a wiki. (You can use the parents email with their approval or input your own STP teacher email.)

·         Students must read and sign a wiki user agreement.

·         Students must sign the district Acceptable Use Policy and recognize its applicability to using the wiki, even when they use it from home.

·         Wikis are for academic purposes only and must be part of the curriculum.

·         Consequences for misuse of the wiki are spelled out in advance and administered through the school’s student disciplinary system.

·         The wiki is hosted on a reputable, established web site (PBWorks) that allows you to limit the users to students in your class and requires a password.

·         The district internet filtering does not block the chosen blogging tool. If it does you must seek approval. If not approved you must choose another site.

·         You cannot grade wiki entries for other class members to see. (Ex.: Students submit a collaborative wiki project. You cannot publically grade it or comment on it electronically. You must deliver the graded assignment to the student outside the electronic environment.)

Wiki MUST be set as "private" or only those "invited or approved" and "commenting" must be disabled.

    • Student Video/multimedia may be posted in PBWorks as long as it is "PRIVATE" and available to only the student sin the class, since PBWorks is out district reccommended wiki tool.
